Equipment

  • 1 Microwave Oven
  • 1 9x13 inch Baking Dish

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter salted
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt adjust this based on your preference and the saltiness of your butter
  • 1 3/4 cups milk whole milk is best, but you can also use 2%

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • Melt the Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Once melted, pour it into a 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring the bottom is fully coated.
  • Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the Milk: Create a well in the center of your dry ingredients and gradually pour in the milk. Using a spoon or spatula, gently fold the milk into the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. The dough will be sticky and somewhat wet.
  • Shape the Biscuits: Using a spoon or your hands (lightly floured, if needed), drop spoonfuls of the dough into the baking dish with the melted butter. It's okay if the biscuits touch each other.
  • Bake: Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and have absorbed most of the butter.
  • Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool slightly in the dish before serving. Make sure to spoon any leftover butter from the dish over the top of the biscuits for extra flavor.

Notes

Storage Instructions:
  • You can store your leftover butter swim biscuits for up to 5 days, ideally in an airtight container.
Reheating Instructions:
  • These biscuits are best reheated in the microwave. You can use the oven too, but remember not to leave it in there for too long, or the biscuits will end up dry and crumbly.
Other FAQ Suggestions:
  • What Else Can I Add to the Biscuit Dough? You can swap the milk that the recipe calls for, and just use some buttermilk instead.
  • What Other Flavors Can I Try? Instead of just plain buttered biscuits, you can make some herbed butter biscuits too. All you need to do is add some fresh or dried herbs into the mixture.
  • How Do I Serve the Butter Swim Biscuits? These can also be used to make mini breakfast sandwiches or served as a side to your soups and stews.
