Helpful Tips & Substitutions
Can This Be Made Ahead of Time?
Yes! Prepare casserole then cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake as directed. You might need to add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time if the casserole is cold from the fridge.
Substitutions & Variations
- Mixed Berries: Add a mix of raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries for a berry medley twist.
- Nuts: Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the casserole before baking for added crunch.
- Cream Cheese Icing: Mix the icing with a bit of softened cream cheese for a tangy and rich topping.
Helpful Cooking Notes
- Grease the Baking Dish: Make sure to grease your baking dish well to prevent the casserole from sticking.
- Press Down on the Mixture: Gently pressing down on the cinnamon roll pieces helps them absorb the egg mixture better, resulting in a more cohesive casserole.
- Let it Cool Slightly: Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the icing. This helps the icing to spread evenly without melting too quickly.
- Serve Warm: This casserole is best served warm, fresh out of the oven. The gooey, warm cinnamon rolls combined with juicy blueberries and sweet icing are absolutely heavenly.
