  • Orange Marmalade
  • Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce
  • Soy Sauce
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Ground Ginger
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cornstarch
  • Water
  • Salt

How to Make Slow-Cooker Orange Chicken

Step 1: Cut the chicken into 1-inch pieces and season with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Lightly spray the slow cooker with non-stick cooking oil and add the seasoned chicken pieces to it.

Step 3: In a large bowl, mix the marmalade, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, ground ginger, and garlic powder until fully combined.

Step 4: Next, pour the orange glaze over the chicken, and stir together until the chicken is fully coated.

Step 5: Then, cook on high for 2 hours or until the chicken is cooked through. Once the chicken is cooked, mix cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl until it’s dissolved. Then, add it to the slow cooker.

Step 6: Cook for another 30 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.

Step 7: Serve warm over rice, noodles, or vegetables.

Storage and Re-heating Notes

This easy orange chicken with marmalade gets better by the day! It reheats well and is great for lunch the next day. 

IN THE FRIDGE: Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. 

IN THE FREEZER: Store in a freezer bag or container and freeze for up to 4 months.  

REHEATING INSTRUCTIONS: Place individual servings in a bowl and microwave until warm.

If you want to add some heat to this simple orange chicken recipe, try adding 1 tsp of red chili flakes to the sauce before cooking.

Does orange chicken require fresh oranges?

This recipe doesn’t! The marmalade in this recipe gives this dish a yummy sweet orange flavor without having to use fresh oranges.

INGREDIENTS
  

  • 3 lbs chicken breasts, skinless, boneless
  • 1 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/2 cup Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • salt, to season
  • pepper, to season

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTES

  • If you want to add a bit of heat to this dish, add 1 teaspoon of red chili flakes to the sauce before cooking. 
  • The marmalade gives this dish a very noticeable sweet orange flavor, much simpler than juicing oranges but tastes just as fresh! 
  • Serve this simple orange chicken recipe with rice, noodles, or veggies!
