HOW TO MAKE PICKLES IN A BLANKET
Step 1: Remove four pickle spears from the jar and pat each of them dry. Set aside.
Step 2: Place one slice of provolone cheese into a small pan on a stovetop over medium heat.
Step 3: Cook the cheese until it bubbles and browns around the outside edge then turn off the heat.
Step 4: Place one pickle spear in the center of the melted cheese and use a spatula to wrap the cheese up around it like a blanket.
Step 5: Remove from the pan and repeat with the remaining pickles.
Step 6: Eat them plain or dipped in ranch.
STORAGE AND REHEATING NOTES:
It is best to make and enjoy these little snacks right when you want to. Storing them for later can make the cheese blanket soggy and soft.
If you do have some leftover pickles in a blanket, you can store them in an airtight container and refrigerate them. To reheat them, just microwave them for a few minutes.
HELPFUL TIPS & SUBSTITUTIONS:
What Can I Use Instead of Provolone Cheese?
Provolone and cheddar are two classic cheese options you can never go wrong with. Their flavor complements the flavor of the pickle well, and their slices are easy to work with too. You can also use some shredded Dill Havarti if you have that at hand.
How Do I Make the Cheese Layer Crispy?
Melting the cheese slice on a non stick pan until it starts to brown will most certainly make it nice and crispy, but if you want that extra crunch factor, you could crush some of your favorite flavored potato chips and sprinkle them on the melted cheese.
What Can I Use as a Substitute for Cheese?
The cheese acts as a nice, savory blanket for the pickle spears. But if you really want to go the extra mile, you can wrap up the blanketed pickles in some crescent dough and bake them until you get a nice golden crust.
