How to Make Sausage Balls in the Oven

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2: Crumble the breakfast sausage into a large bowl. (This makes it easier to work with as you mix the ingredients)

Step 3: Add the shredded cheese, pancake mix, seasoning salt, and milk (milk helps bind the mixture) to the bowl and use your hands to incorporate all the ingredients completely.

Step 4: Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop out individual sausage balls. Roll them gently to round them out, then place them all onto your prepared baking sheet about 1/2 an inch apart.

Step 5: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Storage and Reheating Notes

Sausage Balls are delicious when enjoyed fresh but can be reheated for delicious leftovers!

IN THE FRIDGE: Store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag in the fridge for up to 3 days.

IN THE FREEZER: Wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then place in a Ziploc bag or airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.

Helpful Tips & Substitutions

Can I make these sausage balls in the air fryer?

You absolutely can. Follow the instructions in this recipe but place in the air fryer basket and air fry at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.

Can I make these sausage balls ahead of time?

Yes! You pre-shape the meat mixture into balls and set them on a baking sheet, wrap them tightly in foil or plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator the night before you plan to serve them. I suggest you pull them out and set them on the counter to warm up while your oven preheats, then cook according to the recipe instructions!

Substitute for Bisquick

If you are looking to spice up your sausage balls a bit, try replacing the bisquick with Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix!
