How to Make Chocolate Banana Bread

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Bake Time:  55 minutes
  • Total Time: 70 minutes
  • Serving Size:  8-10 servings
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Generously grease and flour a 9X5 loaf pan.
  3. Mix the first five ingredients with a whisk, in a medium mixing bowl:  flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.  Set this aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, mix the mashed bananas, melted butter,  brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla and eggs.  
  5. Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture.  Stir just until combined – do not overmix.
  6. Stir in 1 cup chocolate chips and walnuts.
  7. Scrape this batter into the loaf pan. 
  8. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top.
  9. Bake for 55 minutes.  Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick.  If batter sticks to the toothpick,  bake for  5 minutes at a time until fully cooked.  If the loaf seems to be burning on the top but is not fully cooked, cover it with tin foil.
