Helpful Tips & Substitutions

Can This Be Made Ahead of Time?

Absolutely! This pie is perfect for making ahead of time. In fact, it’s best when it has had a chance to chill and set for a few hours. Make it the night before your celebration, and it will be ready to go when you are. Just keep it covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Graham Cracker Crust: If you’re not a fan of graham cracker crusts, try an Oreo crust or a shortbread crust for a different flavor profile.
  • Flavor Twists: Add a different food coloring to match a theme or holiday. Red for Valentine’s Day, green for St. Patrick’s Day, or a mix of colors for a rainbow effect.
  • Extra Crunch: Mix in some crushed cookies or candy pieces into the cream cheese layer for an added crunch.
  • Fruit Topping: Add fresh fruit on top before serving for a burst of freshness. Strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries would be perfect.

Helpful Cooking Notes

  • Soften the Cream Cheese: Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before you start. This ensures it blends smoothly with the powdered sugar.
  • Chilling Time: Don’t rush the chilling process. The pie needs at least 2 hours to set properly. If you can, let it chill overnight.
  • Even Layers: For a pretty presentation, make sure each layer is even and smooth. Use a spatula to spread the layers out evenly.
  • Sprinkles: Add the sprinkles just before serving to keep them from bleeding their colors into the pie.
