There’s something undeniably special about pickles, right? Crunchy, tangy, and full of character. Pickle Dip is soon to be your favorite appetizer. Imagine that irresistible pickle flavor combined with creamy textures – sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?
Pickle Dip Ingredients:
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Chill Time: 1 hour | Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes | Servings: 6
- 8 oz Cream Cheese, softened
- ⅓ cup Sour Cream
- 1 ½ cups Dill Pickles, diced
- 1 ½ cups Colby Jack Cheese, shredded
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp Fresh Dill, chopped
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Optional Garnish: additional chopped dill & hamburger pickle chips
How to Make Dill Pickle Dip
Step 1: Coarsely chop pickles on a cutting board. Set aside.
Step 2: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, use a hand mixer or wooden spoon to beat the softened cream cheese until it becomes smooth and creamy. If you’re using a hand mixer, start on low speed to prevent splattering and then increase to medium speed once the cream cheese softens.
Step 3: Add the sour cream into the cream cheese mixture and beat until well incorporated.
Step 4: Next add the chopped dill pickles, shredded cheese, garlic powder, dill and salt & pepper to your liking and beat together until fully incorporated.
Step 5: Give the dip a quick taste test. If you feel it needs more seasoning, you can add a touch more garlic powder, dill or salt & pepper to your preference.
Step 6 Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and cover it with plastic wrap or a lid. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together. This will also help the dip thicken slightly.

Helpful Tips & Substitutions
Can This Be Frozen?
Why, yes! If you’re planning ahead or just want to save some for a rainy day, this pickle dip can be frozen. Just place it in an airtight container, leaving a little space at the top as it might expand. When ready to enjoy, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Stir well, and it’s ready to be dipped into!
Can This Be Made Ahead of Time?
Absolutely! In fact, it tastes even better when the flavors have had time to mingle and dance together. Making it a day ahead is a fantastic idea, especially if you have a busy day coming up.
Substitutions & Variations
Remember, recipes aren’t set in stone. They’re more like guidelines, so feel free to play around!
- Pickles: Fancy a sweet and tangy twist? Swap out the dill pickles for bread and butter pickles. Or mix both, I won’t tell!
- Sour Cream & Cream Cheese: Want a lighter version? Greek yogurt is an excellent substitute for sour cream. And for the cream cheese? Neufchâtel works wonders!
Helpful Cooking Notes
- Pickle Brands Matter: Each brand has its unique flavor profile. I’ve tried this recipe with Mt. Olive hamburger dill chips, but Clausen or your favorite brand could be your secret touch. Experiment and find out! You can even use Bread and Butter pickles instead of dill if you want to create a sweet and tangy flavor profile!
- Measuring with Heart: While I’ve given measurements, trust your palate. Love garlic? Add a dash more! Think the dip can use more pickle goodness? Go ahead and indulge!
This Pickle Dip is more than just a dip; it’s an experience, a celebration of all things pickly. Next time you’re in the mood for something that’s equal parts creamy, tangy, and utterly delicious, you know what to make. Happy dipping!
